The Château and its Essence
Nowadays, when it is time for stories of magical kingdoms, fairy tales, or dreams come true, chances are the silhouette of the archetypal Sleeping Beauty Château appears in augury of what is to follow.
In other words, a French Château is recognized the world over as the prologue to enchanting stories.
Yet, before the logo, the very real châteaux of France - where lived real Princes and Princesses, Kings and Dukes for over a thousand years - were their way of life manifest.
As one modern rendition of Cinderella justly concludes:
“And, while they did live happily ever after, the point, gentlemen, is that they lived.”
Located within a village continuously inhabited since the middle of the 5th century, Château de Lantenay is part of this inspirational true story.

“La Vie du Château”.
“La Vie du Château” has always meant the conscious management and cultivation of its estate, as a familial and carefully-tended world unto its own.
From the jardins à la française in the 17th c. to the parc à l’Anglaise in the 19th c., the estate’s varied and biodiverse 40 acres have abided through the harmony of life, natural diversity, conservation efforts, and aesthetic philosophies.
Today, as we take up the task of reviving and reimagining the spirit of this estate in the 21st c., amid the challenges and opportunities posed by new technological innovations and sustainability concerns, hosts are invited to take part in these activities, endeavours, conservations, restorations, games, and works which characterize the seasonal rhythm and renewal of this living estate.
The estate is a microcosm of the life of Burgundy and its well defined 4 seasons.
